Roasted Cherry Bourbon BBQ Sauce
Ya’ll didn’t think I’d just leave you with cherries with nothing else to do with them did you? I wouldn’t do you like that! When I first made the cherries, I knew exactly what I wanted to do with them. I was surprised they were good enough to eat by themselves, but that’s a bonus!…
Ya’ll didn’t think I’d just leave you with cherries with nothing else to do with them did you? I wouldn’t do you like that! When I first made the cherries, I knew exactly what I wanted to do with them. I was surprised they were good enough to eat by themselves, but that’s a bonus! The primary goal was to make them into some sort of sauce. I thought glaze, which could definitely work, but I love BBQ sauce. It’s my ketchup! This recipe comes together really quickly with the need of only one special piece of equipment and that’s a blender (immersion or regular). Everything else is done inside of one pot and then put on whatever you want to put it on. Which should be everything!
So far, I’ve tried this sauce on chicken and seafood and it works perfectly. There’s just enough sweetness and flavor to compliment the protein, but not so much that it over powers it. It also has enough flavor to stand up to bold, smoky flavors, which makes it perfect for your late summer bbq spread. I plan on trying it with pork shoulder and brisket as well. I think this will be my go to for years to come. Especially when we can go back outside again!
This one is quick because most of the detail is in the recipe for the bourbon roasted cherries! So take that recipe and this one and prosper!

Bourbon Roasted Cherry BBQ Sauce
Ingredients:
- 1 batch of Bourbon Roasted Cherries
- 1 cup tomato Sauce
- 1 tbsp tomato paste
- 1 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
- 2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp honey
- ½ tsp cracked black pepper
- ½ tsp kosher salt (¼ if using table salt)
- ½ tsp paprika
- ½ tsp chili powder
- ¼ tsp ground ginger
- ¼ tsp cinnamon
- ⅛ tsp garlic powder
- ⅛ tsp onion powder
Instructions:
- In a heavy bottomed pot, combine all of the ingredients. When adding the cherries, make sure to get all of the syrup as well. Stir to combine.
- Over medium heat, allow the mixture to come to a boil, then reduce to a medium-low simmer and allow to simmer for 10 mins.
- Turn off the heat and use an immersion blender to smooth out the mixture. Alternatively, you can use a blender, being careful to hold the top as the hot liquid creates pressure while blending.
- Taste and adjust for seasoning and simmer an additional 5 mins.
- Serve over chicken, salmon, with roasted veggies, as a dip for nuggets, in your veins…whatever! Enjoy!
