Budget Friendly Makeover: Guest Room Inspiration

Hey ya’ll!! We’re halfway through the year! OMG, we’re halfway through the year *insert surprised gif*. I know for many of us, it doesn’t seem like there has been any progression in the year, besides the changing of the weather. 2020 has been an…experience to say the least! I was personally feeling in a rut being in the house everyday, no outside dinners or happy hours and moving from my apartment in the city to my parents’ place in order to feel more safe. So I finally asked my Mom if I could revamp one of the rooms in the house with a mini makeover. We’ve been watching HGTV all quarantine, so I think that convinced her to say yes and I’m running with it! So yes people, we’re doing a room makeover!
I LOVE interior design and always take the time to carefully craft the spaces I decorate. If it takes me a year to do a room, so be it, as long as I have the right pieces. My parents on the other hand were not giving me that much time! Lol. Instead, we set a plan to have a refresh done in a month with a small budget of $200 (I have to do this room well to get a bigger budget later, lol). This meant keeping most of the items that were already in the room, scavenging through items that have been long forgotten to see what could be used in the guest room and spending the money carefully and wisely in order to maximize the budget with impactful pieces. So as I was planning out all of those details, something amazing happened! AllModern reached out to me for a sponsored post and they offered me a credit to their store to do with as I pleased for, get this, a budget friendly room refresh. Exactly what I was working on!! The sponsorship doubled my budget and gave me a little more flexibility in my redesign and, ultimately, will allow me to give my parents a great new guest room without having to break the bank!
So let’s talk about my inspiration for the room! My mom is a pretty boss interior designer herself. She has a style that’s modern, with a touch of glam! And she loves hues of teal and turquoise. As a matter of fact, that color permeates every space of this house in some way. On the back deck is the adirondack chairs, umbrella and placemats. In the common 1st floor areas, it’s chairs and pillows in the living room and placemats on the tables. And in the basement, it’s sprinkled into the chairs and artwork as an accent color while other colors take the lead. So it was a no brainer for me that teal should be a prominent color in the room. Looking at other items we had in the house to use for decor, I found a piece of art that not only had the shade of teal I wanted, but also other amazing colors to create a beautiful color palette that made selecting my colors much easier.
Because the wood furniture in the room is a rich chocolate brown, I wanted to make sure that the room didn’t go too dark, so I wanted to make sure to pull out some of the lighter colors in the picture and selected a soft blush pink. I didn’t only select pink because it’s my favorite color, but also because it provides a nice compliment to the rich teal and balances masculine and feminine styles of the bedroom. To round out my colors, I selected a rich, jewel toned eggplant purple that is a bit lighter so it falls right in between the deep teal and light pink and also brass as a metallic accent. The brass is a more subtle way to get pops of gold and bring in the pops of glam my mom loves, without making it too ostentatious as gold can do to a room at times. So here’s some of the images that inspired my design:
